This course is EcoTraining’s signature course consisting of 21 or 28 adventure-packed days (dependent on location) living in and learning about nature and ecology at our wilderness camp. You will take part in a variety of learning activities, while driving and walking in some of the most stunning areas of Africa with our trained guides.

The Safari Guide course is aimed at those wishing to experience a bush holiday, while also learning about the environment they are in. A month of living and learning in nature at our wilderness camps (Selati and Karongwe in South Africa, Mashatu in Botswana or Lewa in Kenya) will provide you with the practical and theoretical knowledge of the natural environment.

The basis of this course was first developed in 1993 and was the first of its kind in the safari industry. It is for those who are passionate about nature, and who would like a more in-depth experience and understanding of it.

All accommodation is within the EcoTraining wilderness camps and consists of two people sharing tents.  Pricing includes all meals for the duration of your stay.

This course provides you with a wide range of skills across many areas relating to the bush.  Each day you will learn about the ecology of the area whilst putting this knowledge into practice on your daily bush walks and game drives. Your experience (dependant on location) will also offer the opportunity for camp outs under the stars in the African bush. This is a truly wild experience that you will remember for the rest of your life.

The course explores key subject areas across the 28 days to develop your understanding of the African bush:

  • Ecology, geology and soils
  • Trees/Vegetation Identification
  • Birds
  • Tracks and tracking
  • Mammals
  • Guiding Skills (including vehicles and radio procedures)
