WHY WE LOVE THIS
You step completely out of your comfort zone and feel every sense in your body come complete alive when you experience Africa on foot.
EcoTracker aims to contribute to the preservation of indigenous wilderness skills and the conservation of the Earth’s last wild places. Our instructors are certified by the acclaimed Tracker Academy – the first and only accredited tracker training school in South Africa. Students to EcoTracker will get a taste of this knowledge from Shangaan trackers who have dedicated themselves to mastering the skills of traditional hunter-gatherers.
This experience provides the opportunity for a more comprehensive understanding of track and sign interpretation, trailing and hunter-gatherer techniques. The core focus of this experience is to spend time trailing animals such as rhino, elephant, buffalo and lion on foot (often dependent on seasonal animal movements). At the end of the course, attendees can choose to do a fully accredited FGASA trailing and track and sign course. If arranged in advanced, at an extra fee, students may be assessed on animal trailing skills.
The experience price includes accommodation in fully equipped two person tents with bedding, all meals and professionally trained guides.
This experience is operated by our education and travel partner EcoTraining. EcoTraining was established in 1993 and is the premier safari guide and trail guiding organisation in Africa.
EcoTraining’s mission is to educate people on the importance of the wilderness and especially the processes that drive the natural ecosystems of the world. With new understanding, the hope is that participants on an EcoTraining experience will go out into the world with the visions to make a difference to the way we look after our planet in their day-to-day lives.
Our tented camps are located in wildlife conservancies and we aim to minimise our impact on the environment. All accommodation is in two person tents including bedding. Our camps are unfenced meaning that we often have many different wild animals visiting our camps during the day and night. All meals are included in any stay including early morning breakfast, brunch, afternoon meal and dinner. Alcohol purchases are additional.
Specific details on what to bring to your experience will be provided. We aim to ensure that you walk away from your experience keen to return again shortly.
