WHY WE LOVE THIS
This is a unique experience to live in harmony with nature for 55 days in the African Bush. Learn life-long skills and knowledge plus experience what goes into being a nature field guide.
This experience allows you to walk away with a unique wealth of knowledge that will remain with you for life. Every time you enter a natural environment anywhere in the world, you will understand its fascinating web of life, be able to identify species and feel that much more connected to nature. Add to that the wonderful friendships and bonds made by living with like-minded people from South Africa and all over the world, sharing a close-knit camp and experiencing the adrenaline and peace that comes with the wild. Participants will have the opportunity to attempt their EcoTraining and FGASA Level 1 qualification, by successfully completing a theoretical and practical assessment. These assessments will be conducted by our instructors (who are accredited FGASA assessors) at our camps, during the course. You will be based in camps in prime wildlife areas, and partake in wilderness walks or game drives twice a day. The experience price includes accommodation in fully equipped two person tents with bedding, all meals and professionally trained guides.
This experience operates in conjunction with our partner organisation, EcoTraining, in their wilderness camps in Southern Africa.
EcoTraining was started in 1993, when a few forward-thinking young guides from several safari lodges realised the need for a formal nature programme. The EcoTraining mission is to educate people on the importance of the wilderness and especially the processes that drive the natural ecosystems of the world. The hope is that participants, armed with this knowledge go out and make a difference to the way they look after the planet in their day-to-day lives.
EcoTraining has four permanent camps – three in South Africa and one in Botswana, collectively accommodating a maximum of 80 people at any one time – as well as temporary camps in Kenya and Zimbabwe. EcoTraining has hosted more than 10 000 people, young and old, from all over the world and from many walks of life. Our experiences are run in simple unfenced bush camps in the middle of great wilderness areas, where participants get to truly experience what it is like to live in wild places.
Our tented camps are located in wildlife conservancies and we aim to minimise our impact on the environment. All accommodation is in two person tents including bedding. Our camps are unfenced meaning that we often have many different wild animals visiting our camps during the day and night. All meals are included in any stay including early morning breakfast, brunch, afternoon meal and dinner. Alcohol purchases are additional. Specific details on what to bring to your EcoQuest experience will be provided. We aim to ensure that you walk away from your EcoQuest experience eager to return again soon.
